About PixelateImage.co
A free tool for hiding things in photos properly, built so that the photos you are trying to protect never have to leave your device.
Who makes it
PixelateImage.co is built and maintained by Atharv Tathe. I made it because the usual way to pixelate a photo online is to upload it to someone else's server. That makes little sense when the reason you are editing the photo is that something in it is private: a face, a name, an address, a document.
How it works
Everything happens in your browser. When you open an image, it is drawn onto an HTML canvas on your own device, and every effect is calculated there:
- Pixelate divides the image into a grid and fills each block with the true average of its pixels. Many tools take a shortcut and copy a single pixel per block, which is noisier and can leak more of the original.
- Blur is a Gaussian approximation that reads from the pixels around each area, so edges blend instead of showing a seam.
- Solid box replaces the area with a flat color: the only method that leaves nothing behind to recover.
The downloaded file is rebuilt from those pixels rather than copied from your original, so it carries no EXIF metadata such as GPS location or camera details.
Principles
- Free, with no account, no watermark, and no limits.
- Your images are never uploaded. The site collects only anonymous usage statistics, described in the privacy policy.
- Honest advice over reassuring advice. Pixelation is strong for faces and weak for text, and the guides say so plainly, with the real cases where redactions have failed.
